RE: LED Bulbs

If all you are trying to do is make it brighter, then LED's are not the solution. Granted recent technology advances have made LED's brighter, they still are not up to the brightness of incandescents. LED's do save power, so if you are trying to do that as well, then try at least a 1 watt LED replacement. Without knowing the details, that's all I can tell you. What are the ratings of the existing bulbs (wattage)?
The light above the dining room table in my Silverback is kind of dim, making it hard to read at the table. I was thinking of changing the bulbs to LEDs but have no idea where to find 12V LEDs to fit in typical RV fixtures. Can anyone help?

RE: Truck Camper Magazine; 2009 Northstar Escape Pod

I am not following you, what do you mean by "only planned on making 6 units"?
The Northstar Escape Pod is designed specifically for the 2009 Chevrolet Colorado with an aluminum Ute flatbed.
I guess they only planned on making 6 units.

Look at the Northstar Austrailia web site below, this isn't really a new product for them, they have been making it for years for export to Australia.

RE: Almost $40,000 for a Jeep wannabee?

You can get a conversion from this company:
American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) - AEV Brute TJ Wrangler Jeep Pickup Truck Conversion
http://www.aev-conversions.com/photos/albums/AEV_Production_Brute/DSC_3295.jpg
Looking at this reminds me that Jeep NEEDS to get off their butt and produce a truck version of the stretched 4 door Wrangler Unlimited (and offer it with a V8). The platform is already there, costs would be minimal and every one who will buy this H3, Honda Ridgeline, perhaps the Explorer Sport Trac and others would overnight be thinking of trading. I guarantee one would be in my driveway. Jeep, ya listening?

RE: Asking for a friend about an F250

The Ford Truck Body Builder web site is meant for commercial truck upfitters so they can design utility bodies, etc. This is why it is not commonly known about at the consumer level. I bet many Ford dealers who only sell to the public have no idea about it.
The official Ford website below has all the information on this truck including payload and service bulletins.

RE: Frisco TX man says HOA won't let him park pickup on driveway

Once again, it is not the HOA that I have an issue with it is the Lincoln Mark LT vs. the F-150. I agree that if you sign anything, you better read it first, and if you don't like something be proactive about it just like you wrote. I even agree that they have a right to tell you you have the wrong brand of truck if you signed a contract agreeing to their rules. I just think they are being silly making rules specifically saying you can drive a Lincoln, but not a Ford, etc. I am willing to wager that the original authors of the HOA rules were about to eliminate all trucks but then realised that they themselves either owned or had friends and family that drove trucks and they put these models on the approved list. Happens more than you think...
And they are getting a lot of media attention that is surely embarrassing.
The word Association in HOA means that you are automatically a member when you buy in. You have the right to vote at the meetings, run for office, present petitions, etc. However, in my limited experience, 90% of the members never attend a meeting or even vote in elections instead they just cry and moan about the rules they don't like. I would ask the OP has the gentleman that was referenced presented petitions to the board signed by other truck owners in the community? Has he run for office? Has he attended Association meetings to voice his complaint? He apparently freely joined the Association and agreed to abide by the Association rules but he has the right to work within the system to change the rules.

Thanks, but I don't live there (and wouldn't). I just heard this local news story and thought it would be an interesting topic to debate on this forum.
To the original poster, go to your local lincoln dealer, get their stinking badges and re-badge your F-150. This is really azzanine, same vehicles, different badging and one is allowed and one not. I'd just re-badge the sucker.

RE: Frisco TX man says HOA won't let him park pickup on driveway

You are missing my point, I agree that he should have read the rules before moving, buyer beware. My point is that the difference between a Lincoln Mark LT (pictured) and a Ford F-150 Lariat (pictured) is literally the name on the tailgate. Both have leather seats, power everything, etc.

RE: 2008 Tundra Crew Max 5.7L 4x4 TRD Package

Look at the Northstar TC650. It is not self contained, and is a pop-up, but it has the best Center of Gravity (CG) for extra short bed trucks with the optional extended cabover bed. The length of the cabover is almost as long as the bed length of the camper, which gives it a good forward CG. This will put the CG forward of your rear axle, which is what you want. The Northstar web site shows it on a Dodge Dakota, which has a bed length comparable to your Tundra.

RE: TC/TRUCK WEIGHT: Are we safe?

I think the Toyo Open Country's have the highest load ratings.
Here is a PDF on the Toyo web site with load ratings for the Open Country AT's:
http://marktg.toyotires.com/file/18971.pdf
I would be EXTREMELY worried about your tires. If you don't want to go down the 19.5" road, look at the heaviest load range E tires available - doesn't BFG make some 285R17's with almost 3800 lbs each? That said, I really like our 265/19'5's.
WITH THE PROPER GEAR, you should be able to make it work.

RE: TC/TRUCK WEIGHT: Are we safe?

I agree that the manufacturer weight ratings are based on the weakest link, and the previously posted 6084 lb. rating may be due to the tires, you can see on page 65 of the PDF on Ford's web site that the tires are rated at 3042 lbs. (3042 x 2 = 6084).
I dug a little deeper and found the following article at fourwheeler.com which states the Ford 10.5 axle found on '99-'05 F-250's has a weight rating of 9,750 lbs. I am not sure of the validity of this data, it surely isn't an official Ford rating, so take this with a grain of salt. The axle was manufactured by Visteon, a supplier to Ford. Often people call these Sterling axles, because the Visteon plant was located in Sterling, Michigan. I think that plant was sold off.
